a huge draw to the western states for me was the laid back way of life and style.
not having to get dolled up for college classes was a big perk to the univ. of colorado.
and here in jackson, this tweed jacket is considered fancy pants.
a structured jacket adds a touch of lady to my t-shirt + jeans + ankle booties uniform.
i broke it out last night because fall arrived early this year and i'm so happy i caught a glimpse
before i head off on my 3 month excursion starting next week.
first stop... chicago marathon!

LOTM - hikes.

today on Ladies of The Mountains we are talking about our favorite hikes.

the very best day hike in jackson is hands down, jackson peak.

it's only a couple of hours and offers incredible views of jackson hole.

head up to curtis canyon and veer right at the fork in the road.

you'll get to a parking lot and just follow the trail all the way up.

this time of year is the best with the cool temps and the aspens changing = vibrant!

goodwin lake is also a great place to picnic or throw in your fly rod.

best to head up with a group of girlfriends, dogs, and life saving trail mix.

don't forget the bear spray!

welcome to jackson hole.

my family just left this morning and i'm exhausted like, whoa.
we spent the week fishing, eating, fishing, and more eating.

i teamed up with the ladies at Dishing to come up with the perfect

"welcome bag" full of jackson hole local favorites for my family to enjoy.

the tote: xowyo makes the cutest totes with a helpful and fun map of jackson! it's the perfect size to hold all of the goodies.  my mom is already in love and i know she'll flaunt the bag around after she departs.
coffee travel mugs: one of my go-to shops, Made, sells ceramic travel mugs that are perfect for early grizzly sighting trips through grand teton national park.
coffee:  snake river roasting company has won over my parents' hearts.
wine: okay, so maybe this one is more for me but i just love the chardonnay from jackson hole winery.
tram bars: locally made Tram Bars are the best granola bars you will ever have!
mustache flask: another amazing find at Made.  for my brothers on their fishing trip.
elk and buffalo salami: a great treat for visitors and oh, so good! my dad's personal favorite from jackson hole buffalo meat company. the buffalo salami was a goner in less than 10 minutes. (pictured below)
sauces and rubs: house made spices and sauces from the famous cowboy bar.  the huckleberry steak sauce is unreal.
pancake mix:  the bunnery now has their pancake mix available in stores! i know my brothers will eat this up over the weekend.
flowers: after filling up your welcome bag, don't forget the flowers! the whole grocer always has fresh and colorful beauties.

my life has been crazy as of late.

1. parents are here and we've been hitting up the river.
2. that puppy is just for your viewing pleasure.
 if he didn't have an owner, he'd be mine.
3. my very favorite most amazing melt in your mouth dish at blue lion.
4. as happy as i was eating that said dish, it was a sad night to say goodbye to a jackson hole legend.

running with heart.

i haven't really posted much about my marathon training
mainly because i'm afraid it might jinx me in some way.
but its crunch time people!!!
i only have a few weeks left before the big race in chicago.
i'll be running with the American Heart Association on behalf of my pops,
who survived a massive heart attack two years ago.
there is a good chance that you know someone who has been or will be affected by heart disease.

a forest fire.

i woke up on monday morning to a frantic phone call from jeffers
"east jackson needs to evacuate!"
a forest fire had started the day before and creeped a little too-close-for-comfort towards town.
thankfully we found out soon after that it was just an advisory evacuation.
phew.
watching the dozens of planes and helicopters nose dive into cache creek canyon yesterday was surreal.
i can't believe what firefighters and rescue workers go through to protect the lives of others.
which comes as the perfect reminder for today, 9/11.
thank you to all of those fighting the massive blaze and protecting our jackson hole.

one of my best friends is in town from nyc.

thank heavens the smoke cleared and the clouds parted ways,

she has seen the mighty tetons and enjoyed the mountain sun.

we took her to phelps lake yesterday for an easy and beautiful hike.

while we didn't see any bears...

we did do some end of the summer jumping rock action into the freezing lake.
